today i had alot of random thoughts running through my head.
like why is orchard referred to as town?
if singapore is a city(very developed) , we go to town (less developed?) to shop.
doesn't make sense does it.
so i checked the dictionary:
town -- A population centre that is larger than a village but smaller than the city.
-- An area that is more densely populated or developed than the surrounding area:
going
into town to shop.
well, it does make sense now doesn't it?
and i realised that i always have a preconceived notion of everything.
if my friend says: oh i work in an office.
immediately, in my mind's eye, i see an office. the kind of office with partitions and computers sitting neatly on desks with nice swivel chairs.
but sometimes, real offices don't look like that.
when u describe a friend your other friend hasnt seen before.
u say: ah she's kinda like lian-cious.
then u imagine a girl with long rebonded blond/red hair, speaking mandarin, extremely fair-skinned.
ok, yes its discriminatory (maybe this is too strong a word).
but whatever. my mind is always riddled with preconcieved notions n sometimes it is even perceived as truth. but many a time, reality paints a different picture.
and why is it.
everytime someone asks for tissues.
they look at the girl first.
like, are girls expected to bring packets of tissue paper everywhere we go?
maybe its just a gender thing.
or maybe i should just stop fretting about my random thoughts n study for the upcoming mock exams.
ah well..... -sigh-
